I travelled through Meghalaya years ago, and hiked to several of these root bridges. They are breathtaking, with a view of the giddying, swirling, turquoise waters (as a result of the limestone topography) below. The biggest tourist draw is a double-decker bridge with two bridges made of one tree. One of the bridges is just wide enough for a motorcycle to pass through. Newer bridges are being built with cables instead of betel and bamboo, to serve as a guide for the roots. Thanks for this article, it's a lovely testimony to the Khasi tribe.
