HI Mike, our two main indigenous fig varieties in Sydney are Ficus Rubiginosa and Macrophylla or the common names of Port Jackson fig and Morton bay fig. One thing I have found with these species is that fire has reduced their range to riparian and coastal areas but the mud crabs and other mangrove dwellers love them too. I have been doing a lot of behind mangrove planting as well as along the estuary shore as the branches will spread far over these areas dropping their fruit. Many people are surprised when you tell them that the fish love them as well. Many thanks

Hi Theodore. Yes, fish are fond of figs and are likely dispersing their seeds along river banks in some places. How many have you planted behind the mangroves there?

100-150, also along the feeder creek systems. I have also collected a couple of bags of seed and have cast thousands of seed bombs. They make wonderful bonsai and strike really easily from cutting and are excellent for deep planting. I will try to upload some of the bonsai for people to see.
